  • i tryed to reaply paste on a laptop and it didnt drop much in temp. then i swapped the thermal paste for a thermal pad and then it worked. i think there must be a to big gap for thermal paste compared to a pad

  • I've been having the same issue with my GS65 Stealth! I always run it on cooler boost (8000+ RPM on all three fans). There is nothing that I'm able to do about it! At idle it's at 50-60°c🔥. Rarely it stays at 40-50°c. But the GPU stays cool even under loads (at 70°c) but CPU runs hot 😬 and any state and reaches 95°c if I launch any game, doesn't matter how demanding it is, down clocks itself to 2.6 GHz all cores and yet stays at 95°c. (Sad face) I'm not able to game at all! I've an active undervolt(-144.5 mV cache and core) and locked all cores at 3.0 GHz, this helps a bit and drops the temps to around 80°c. IG re-paste is my only option left! My laptop performs so bad with or without undervolt, and can't even push 60 fps in Valorant. But have seen it work great in synthetic benchmarks like Cinebench R20 with a highest multi core score around 2800 with hours of tuning the undervolt and at stable settings it hits 2000+ IG, without undervolt it hits 1750. I've re-installed all the drivers just to be certain that it isn't software related issue, have tried both the latest and the stock version to compare results, and both end up with the same outcome, so that's that!

  • I have the same laptop from Metabox Australia but with the 3900X over the past week it idles at 70-75c, and if Im either video editing or playing a game I reach 95-103c and my fans doesn't automatically max out when it reaches these temps, I have to open that same ControlCenter 3.0 that comes with the Clevos and manually set it to Maximum. Think I may do the same as you did on this

  • I had this problem with my PS4 Pro. I was playing Doom 2016 and the fan was so loud it sounded like a hair dryer but the air coming out the back wasn't all that hot. It was basically dry out of the factory, I have no idea how it took so long to present a problem (maybe because I don't play PS4 all that much) but I used some basic Corsair TM30 (it's all I had on hand) and now the noise is much lower and the air coming out of the unit is actually hot. Crazy how much difference fresh paste makes.

  • I run this rig as my daily driver only it has a 3700x, and game on it heavily. I've had it a little over 6 months, It substitutes a desktop quite nicely actually, and what you loose is well made up for in quality and versatility. That being said ive noticed the temps getting very high lately. In long game sessions it has always made its way up to 90, then it started hitting 94 and going back down. Now its pegged at 95 all the time when gaming. When browsing the web i would normally see temps around 50 and now i am at 65. When i had it built i paid for an add on to put IC diamond paste on it, I figured since i wasn't getting the 3900x i wouldn't have too much trouble with the paste. I wish i paid more for the kryonaut. Any way thank you @JayzTwoCents for confirming what i suspected. Ill be putting the same paste you put on yours. An update in 6 more months would be cool.

  • Jayz after watching i did a little bit of digging and some people using KPX Paste seem to have the same problem as you. Months after applying it, the temperatures spiked and when they removed the Cooler the Paste was solid and dried out (not gooey anymore). If you have the time, could you maybe look into this matter? I think it would maybe help some people or at least make them aware of KPX drying out after months and this leading to a spike in temperature.

  • What's the point of equipping a laptop with a CPU that can't be fully utilized because there's not enough power available? Wouldn't a CPU that just barely stays inside the power limit make much more sense? It's like... driving a Ferrari on an Autobahn with no speed limit but having to stay at 150km/h because the tires you put on it would explode at faster speeds.

  • While i agree with better thermal paste and taking apart to reapply, what annoys me about your videos is that this type of move on such a pricey laptop usually voids warranty. An obnoxious warning about this for people would be nice. (it might not void warranty)but if it did and they did it on your suggestion that would be horrible right ? I cant be the only one is annoyed by that ? CHECK YOUR WARRANTY before attempting.

I don't have any of the fancy KPX paste, but clearing the cobwebs and repasting brings back a few fps for the kids on the old gaming laptop. I've also fixed crashing laptops the same way (pre-thermal throttling systems.) Remember, dust bunnies aren't cute, and don't make for good Hassenpfeffer.

  • On inspection of that thermal compound based on what I can see in this video: You used too much. Eventually the oils of the thermal compound will disperse and coat surrounding surfaces, and in a heated environment will slowly evaporate. This leaving behind a cakey ultra-fine powder that clings to itself and surfaces like wet sand, but it's actually dry. Matching up the separation lines from the CPU to the coldplate, I can see some small gaps where I'm willing to bet air got trapped in the application. This would accelerate the oxidation process of the thermal compound drying it out faster. Heating would cause the air pockets to expand creating a more sponge-like structure within the thermal compound. This, once the oils have dispersed due to oxidation, would create an insulating barrier instead of thermal transfer. How can I tell? Three ways. First, there are numerous pits all throughout the main blob of TIM on the CPU. Second, if this process hadn't happened as described then the TIM would've held onto the coldplate via suction force. Third, you can't even see the labeling of the CPU heatspreader through that thick mass of TIM. Solution? Pea-sized ball in the center of the CPU, and about a half pea-sized ball on the GPU. Press the heatsink firmly on the surface and oscillate pressure while trying to smear the TIM over the surface with the coldplate. Not sure it got full coverage? I assure you it did if your technique was correct, but to be sure you can pull the heatsink off and check the application. First, ensure you covered edge-to-edge spread on both the CPU and GPU. Second, ensure you can still see the majority of the CPU labeling. If not, you used too much or your chosen TIM is shit. Third, clean surfaces and repeat with confidence.

  • Hey Jay, try out Manual OC with ZenStates or CTR to bring the 3950X inside this laptop to around 3.6GHz at 0.975V to reach roughly 88W PPT in CineBench r20. You will LOVE the results. It should reach 8400 points in CB20. This way it will run way cooler with quieter fans and the performance is noticeable better than stock. At least for highly multithreaded loads. You can find a video on my channel in which I compare the scores achievable stock and tuned with all the CPU options for this notebook. But beware, if you use ManualOC you have to deactivate the ControlCenter software in Windows' services, it's called "Control Center Hotkey Service". Otherwise the ControlCenter overwrites the manual OC from time to time.

  • Idk why my laptop (Zenbook 14) temps are so high. Before when I played games it would reach 70* now it reaches 85*+ on the reg. The weirdest thing is that when I exited out almost all programs except my tablet’s driver, then close the lid, it still RISES IN TEMPERATURE. Couple hours later when I open it it’s is 85*+ even when it is below idle conditions! I don’t really know why this is happening. I have also came to the same conclusion as Jay but don’t have the technical prowess nor the tools and thermal paste to do it. Edit: If you suspect blocked airflow, it isn’t, I elevate the laptop giving vents ample airflow, also it can’t be a buildup of dust cause I only have used this laptop for around 5 months. Also I’m pretty sure it isn’t a virus cause I use common sense and don’t download sketchy stuff off the internet, and if the off chance I do download a software I don’t know, I search it up and if it’s safe I scan it through virustotal for reassurance.
