I felt that it is important to bring attention to this issue and to make sure that people using the H1 are aware of the potential danger and show an alternative way to protect their case from catching fire while they wait for the official NZXT fix to reach end users.

Mine was sent with the nylon kind of screw version which also provides some fire! Don't know if this is becoming regular with the new release but you can also get those screws afterwards I think... Just contact the NZXT support!
Me watching with a NZXT H510i Rn:
are the NZXT H510 cases and cpu water coolers safe?
Not sure who the fuck Steve is.
At Winning, *YOU'RE WINNER!*
Literally there's a scene in Fight Club where the narrator explains how recalls work. if lawsuits are cheaper than a recall, they don't do one.
Or better yet dont fucking buy NZXT products anymore if you dont like your house to explode
Looks like they just implemented a recall on 30k+ units. Good job on getting it out there, among others. Definitely gained my respect, they sponsor you but your morals stood above that. Well done sir 👏
14:58 It's been a while since I laughed as hard as I did when that happened
What if the riser manufacturer isn't the culprit but it's actually NZXT's fault for using screws that are too big?
I would put a thinner nut and bolt through it with rubber or nylon washers on each end to insulate it. You could even put some rubber shrink wrap around the bolt.
That case is made in house. Yes cables were sourced but who is responsible for the installation of the cables into the case and the diameter of mounting screw hole drilled into that bracket? Not believing this is the cable manufacturers fault.
Lmao I was going to say zip tie
I'd still put a nylon washer between the riser and the case. This way there's no contact possible.
Unfortunatley they fought seat bealts for over a decade:(
Will there be a formal fix and they can resume production? or this case is completely discontinued now?
It doesn't matter that you use zip ties. Its still a risk that it will dig into the PCB with time. Even tho the Zip ties are plastic, but the PCB board material contains copper. It have a chance to short circuit anyway. NZXT need to replace entire cable with new better quality which you shown at the end of the video.
hey, what do you want to do for dinner? me turning on h1: barbeque
Why is Jay calling those tweezers 'zip ties'?
Fixed it using the nylon screws
Why doesn't NZXT suggest this solution?
Nzxt is at blame as well for using screws that are too large
Jesus I’m glad I didn’t buy this. It’s on my parts picker
Change out the riser, forget about the replacement screws. There is no way that riser passed a CSA approval.
If I want to replace another riser cable, can you advise which one to use? Thank you
NR200 supremacy
And I was just thinking about getting one of these... I might still get one though
Just cover the screws with electrical tape
Well I was going to order one of these cases because I liked the look and the form of them. Not now though I'm sure they all are not bad or will catch fire I'm just a bit nervous now about buying this brand.
My H1 has Nylon Screws but I still don't trust it, I can't wait for them to get me the repair kit (replacement cable). Such a shame this potentially fatal flaw exists, the H1 is such a beautiful compact chassis and a powerhouse, Not getting rid of mine and not bashing NZXT. The cable providers are BUMS.
The last time I saw my computer burn so vividly was when I plugged the RGB cable in the wrong way around.
I used zip ties to connect a broken attachment on my Mercedes Benz connecting the gas pedal to the carburetor making it go from no more than 5 mph to a full on 90+ mph on the freeway! Zip ties are the shit!
BTW it was a 72 2- door sports coupe that was broken and I bought it for a straight $100 bucks because the people that owned it were moving the next day. True story
NZXT is trying to make KFC console looks like amateur
Great fix, I would still put a nylon washer between the case and the PCB, just in case.
Would there be any way to use a different third party riser cable with that case?! Like one we can just go buy and replace ourselves? Or are there too many bends so other riser cables would just break?
Actually I know a guy behind the radio brand of Pinell feels the same way as NZXT should be feeling right now. They had sold a very popular radio, then it was determined that they had a faulty battery that not only could cause house fires, it actually DID cause house fires. However, not too long ago, he commented that he was still worried, because out of all the manufactured units, there was still 5000 affected radios that they hadn't gotten back through their official recall. 5000 potential house fires and loss of life that he felt responsible for... And that is not a good feeling to have.
can you please tell randomfrankp that his minimal office setup is going to catch fire with that case! irworld.info/show/fy-lm-h-y/dqqSoNSnobOAr8Q.html
And this is why i respect Jay and Steve from GN. They tell the truth regardless of sponsors.
No one ever: "Imagine how cool fire looks with RGB" NZXT: "Hold my beer..."
Eventually, something needs to be done to where even if the costs don't outweight the liability issues, recalls still need to be done for consumer advocacy and rights
8:55 This reminds me of the recall GM was finally forced to do that caused the engine and everything else to turn off if you had a particular heavy key chain attached to the ignition switch. But what GM also did was they fixed it a few years later without changing the part number. The fifth estate covered this and other recalls from the past that GM has avoided, such as the external gas tank on their pick up trucks that could catch fire in an accident. Instead GM just paid a fine to settle it. irworld.info/show/fy-lm-h-y/haykZ6WWZbp2mLI.html
I opened my case and the problem is already solved its has been replaced with a plastic or nylon screws by the factory.
Hey jay. Between the two PCs, which ones a better build? The Lenovo legion t5 amd version or the hp omen 25L? The Lenovo has gpu Nvidia 1650 and cpu of amd ryzen 5 3600. The hp omen has gpu Nvidia 1660 and cpu well either an intel i5 or amd ryzen 5 3500. Which ones better in general?
Wouldn't a Plastic push rivet be both Cheaper to issue out and simpler to fit. For example these are similar to what I had with my old Lian-Li case fans silentpc.com/cgi-bin/e/plastic_rivet.html around 5mm diameter.
just swap the screws for zip ties problem solved ok Sorry Jay i commented before i watched it all my bad .but nice to see great minds think alike ..lol but speaking as a mechanic that can only gp of what i can see i would say all those holes were originally the same size but they used the wrong screws
There is not even a good reason for the 12V to be anywhere near those screw holes. A terrible lazy or ignorant design.
They clearly did that to save money and its terrible. It is going to cost them a lot more than they saved now. I for one will think before I buy nzxt. That is a serious fault. Good video
You could of just used one cable tie on each side instead of two, just saying
Whats funny about you comparing it to the car needing to do a recall for something - It took Ford nearly a year to replace my hazardous passenger airbag, and now there's a known brake defect that they're coming up on over a year of dragging their feet to fix. They've said if I get it fixed myself they'd be able to do a rebate but I'm sure there's lots of people like me who simply can't afford to take hits on their car right now. It's extremely frustrating and is the reason I have zero reason to want to ever buy a Ford again. I wish stuff like potentially life altering recalls, even if they're infrequently occurring incidents, were more important than they feel like they are. I think the only thing they need to do with the brakes is change a valve or fluid or something like that because something is getting stuck causing the brakes to not stop the car when applied. I honestly may have already had the work done from the hazard descriptions. Bahh.
people do not use win win win riser cables. use ones that have ground isolates and thanks for this video Jayson it is very informative☺☺😉😉😊😊🤗🤗😲😲😮😮
In this video, "Jay's Two Cents" becomes "Jay's Screw Sense."
Jay, got a work around for this (one I've used in the past on Chinesium products) but without one on hand.... Is there room to drill out the hole a size larger? If so, I've done this and used PTFE (or similar) tube to insulate a m3 or so screw and nut. If you cut the tube a bit long, it'll even fold over creating it's own "washer", isolating all 3 planes of contact.
Jay, I think you are missing the point of Steve's video. That riser cable should not be used. As long as it is in use it is an eventual hazard isolating it with nylon screws or zip ties doesn't fix the problem it just delays it and that was the point of Steve's video.
Riser Card, made with (MSI) Dragon's Blood and NVIDIA DNA. Duh, WINNING!
I just received a prebuilt with this case a few days ago. It came with the nylon screws, but I'll be replacing the riser cable. I'm still going to use it. I have a very very good fire insurance policy just in case.
best fix ever F the nylon screw id....
I have NZXT products, and if they can allow this issue to fester and exist this long without taking action, it makes me feel uneasy about these products as well and will I buy in the future, the answer is no.
i have this oh no
never mind i have a nzxt h510. phew
I get sending the screws out to anyone who has already bought the case as a stopgap while they source a new riser for a full recall. But I can't help but find the fact that NZXT has decided to continue to sell these systems knowing that the risers are defective, just absolutely disgusting. Those Nylon screws are going to break or people will lose them while working in the case and replace them with a standard on hand screw. Having absolutely no idea that that screw was the one thing standing between them and disaster. As long as these cases contain those risers they are are essentially timebombs.
As an EE student: Nylon screws? Seriously? That's NOT a proper fix. The PCB itself needs to be replaced. When we were thought to design PCBs at my university they were very clear that you gotta have proper margins between traces and planes and any holes you drill. Any hole that's not a via should always be connected either to nothing or to the ground plane on _every_ layer of the PCB. Heck, most PCB design software these days even have warnings and design rule settings for the very purpose of making sure it's done properly.
Who would want to buy a shitty small case like that anyway?
Other people sponsored by NZXT: "There are no H1 fires in Ba Sing Se"
Really some avatar thing here?
I thought this was going to be a IRworldr apologize video based on the sigh in the beginning.
Ever since Jay lost the evga oc challenge it seems like he just copies Steve from GN got the Nos tank and copies the Nos tank interupetions that Steve has.. Now he's just copying his videos. Get some of ur own ideas for a change.
Jay just copies Steve Constantly.. He's devoid of his own ideas
Well, at least the PCIe riser branding is on point!
My daughters build is done in this case. Luckily, I've got an integrated graphics build, so I didn't mess with riser cable as much. But, it took a while to get the nylon replacement screws. I do hope they recall the riser and provide us with a long term solution.
Incase anyone was wondering, they have now issued a recall, stopped sales, and will be providing replacement risers to people who already own this.
Thanks I don't have that case but that was nice of you to do this video.
If my neighbor called me to tell me my house was on fire, I think I'd be angrier that they didn't call the fire department.
Yeah, thanks for telling me about recalls, I've seen Fight Club. Acting like I'm not educated...
just use tplug. that you see in cars. pannels etcc. you could drill hole in case out if need bigger too
It should go zip tie, riser cable, plastic washer then case into zip tie.
Even though I did receive the nylon screw kit from NZXT, I just used your method and zip tied it. Hopefully the new riser will show up soon.
14:32 OEM riser cable part being sourced to how many different companies? 🤦🏼 That right there can be a potential “issue”, ya think😉 Now after looking at the cable out, I’d say, it’s not just NZXT’s fault, but some blame has gotta be to manufacturer who made this, the way they did......it’s not safe, imo, regardless of what case it goes into; as the cable itself is flawed! Cheers✌🏻
why do you even review this buIIsh!t case?
Hey Jay, i have a H1! You are bundled with NZXT! Why the hell? is the fix a pci-e gen3 the solution? The worste selling point of tihs case is pie-e gen3! Why is the fix not Gen4 ..... we have to plan ando so on, you get a new gen3 one? wtf
the verge is watching and going, hey those are tweezers.
hnnnngg so much be quiet screwdriver action what a fan service!
My Ford Fusion had a recall for a steering wheel bolt that could shear and cause the steering wheel to simply detach while driving. I took it in as soon as I heard and the dealership told me, 'We haven't even been given the new bolts yet, come see us in 3 months'.....
NZXT should rename H1 to Pinto
Do you know what would be great? If you, LinusTT and RobyTech would have a reality series where you each build custom orders. The loser would be voted off at the end of the year to see who America really wants building their computer.
Yeah old McGywer tips are good 😁
Please make a video about Thermalfake copying 1:1 Noctua's NF-A12x25
JayzTwoCents Instead of using zip ties, I was wondering if nylon wire also can be used as a temp solution? Like fishing wire? Or something like that? Thank you for the video!
My gpu actually did lose signal all the time and I would have to turn monitor off and back on to get the signal back.. yea , I’m calling nzxt today
I was sent and installed the nylon screws.. and now after seeing this... power off and unplugged.. thanx nzxt
When people care more about -money- greed than other people, it's a sad day to be alive. :( Jay: How will I feel, if something happens to them, because of something I built? NZXT: $$$$$... Whatever.
or just buy some M4 stainless steel screws and call it a day
Anyone know where i can get some "Ketchup and Mustard" zip-ties?
the new NZXT H1 brought to you by electroBOOM.
Ford Pinto for example
Somebody get ahold of wallstreetbets. If everybody buys and shorts out their H1 until fire, we can all get new houses.
Glad i got away from NZXT products.
I remember last year when I built some PC's I remember seeing this on the shelf and thinking "damn one of these days"
You really should invest in a zip tie gun if you use them so frequently!
I remember a OLD lawyer movie or two about how they rate the cost of repair vs recall. One woman it real life was convict of killing her husband due to a car defect that was NOT released until way after the trial.just comes down to $$$$$$$$. Did make me wonder after watching this video, what kind of legal trouble a home builder could get into if a computer did cause harm or even death to someone.
This is why I just stay away from NZXT
Thank you for the video. Definitely something that needs a fix. By the way where did you get the screwdriver? Looking for one like that. :)
I was going to buy this and do a new build..hopefully the phanteks evolv shift air 2 wont burst into flames.
